Can sinner be good?
What would you think about the person who by any means is a sinner, but never harmed innocent. And never was indifferent when somebody was hurting those who can’t fight back. Does this man, even as he is full of sin, deserve to go to heaven? Can all people who were saved by him erase his misdeeds?
That were the questions I’ve asked myself today after seeing Bill Hickock being shot in the back of his head by some trash. This character from Deadwood was very deep. Entire show is quite interesting, but I will really miss this great gunman. I must admit that for the moment I’ve got a piece of doubt to his morals, I’m talking about the scene when he accepts offer from the saloon owner to trick the poor (well not so poor actually) widow. But he quickly recovered in my eyes and died in style. It was a death of a man who knew that he doesn’t fit to normal life, and has understanding that is getting too old to keep old habits. So he writes letter to his wife and goes to the bar to wait for destiny to do its job.
Yes Ladies and Gentlemen, I’m impressed by the personality of Mr. Hickock (and artistry of Keith Carradine). I prefer better one man who is sinner, but will never let good man die if he has anything to say, than hundred of people who live by the laws of faith, but don’t care about the others. True God’s man is the one who will fight the beast to protect the lamb, not the one who is bowing head in front of the altar and then turning it away to not see suffering of others.

Stupid choices
From the article on TechCrunch I’ve learned about new book “The Facebook Effect: The Inside Story of the Company That Is Connecting the World” by David Kirckpatrick. They’ve posted two excerpts there and in one of them you can read:
“In the first week of his sophomore year at Harvard, Mark Zuckerberg cobbled together an internet software program he called Course Match. The idea was to help students pick classes based on who else was taking them. If a cute girl sat next to you in Topology, you could look up next semester’s Differential Geometry course to see if she had enrolled in that as well. Hundreds of students immediately started using it.”
Yeah, it’s always good to make choices in such field like education basing on such critical factor as other attendants. I know that perspective of sitting in the lecture hall next to hot chick is tempting, but common. I wonder if such people are really concerned about education and I believe answer is clear. But actually I was witness of same choices. When I was studying at university I was working in Dean’s Office and one of my responsibilities was assignment students to groups. I’ve often spoken with young people (mainly girls, guys seemed to care less about such things) whose main concern was to be in same group just because they were sitting on the same bench in high school. It even was going so far that some of them were changing their course of study (for instance from Management to Administration), just to be in same group. It was always making me laugh and now I can see that it wasn’t only my Alma Mater, and even not only Poland, but it’s happening everywhere. World is about to end I’m telling you.
Anyway, I’ve read these excerpts and I’ve enjoyed them so much that I’ve pre-ordered this book:) It’s coming on June 15th, so there is a little wait, but looks like it’s totally worth it.
[Wiki] World is mad
I was reading some stories today (as every day) and on some picture I saw Gerardo Medina as infant. From the title one can read that till the age of 10 he thought that girl (Lina Medina) next to him on this picture is his sister. But she was his mother, she gave him a birth when she was 5. Below is the picture I’ve found and you can learn more from article on Wikipedia.

In such occasions I really wonder if world would ever stop to surprise me. And disgust me as well.
World is collapsing
I was reading news on Polish portal gazeta.pl and at the bottom of the page, in entertainment section I’ve noticed this:

News with the picture is about shocking discovery. Polish actress Alicja Bachleda-Curus has been using the same purse for 5 years, and was even showing with it at official events. Wow! I’m shocked! It’s indeed complete faux pas. Ehh, looks like our world is about to end if such news are hitting main page of big portal.
Scary, isn’t it?

Problems with focusing?
As new Mac user I’m reading a lot of stuff about it. And I’ve realized that apps helping you to focus on some subject are becoming more and more popular. Just to name two there are: Concentrate and Think. They have only one purpose to isolate apps you need to work with at the moment and let you concentrate on your work, so you’re not being distracted by incoming mails, IM messages and so on. I wonder if people really hit this level that they can do it by themselves. When I have a work to do I’m just doing it and have no problems with paying attention. Or maybe users just want to feel like some writer or artist with only typewriter or easel in front of them, completely targeted at the subject. Maybe, but still I find it weird. But maybe I’m weird, not buying this entire “go to Starbucks to write a blog post” thing. Possible.
COFEE
Microsoft developed tool which would help government agencies to retrieve data from computers of suspects. However the idea is good, I can’t stop thinking that it would be greatly abused:( More about Computer Online Forensic Evidence Extractor (COFEE) here. I believe more than to pursue really bad criminals it would be used to fight computer piracy.
Popularity
TechCrunch posted text about how Facebook is trying to help unpopular people by asking their friends to post more often on their walls, read more here. It reminded me that when I was 10 years old (more or less) I’ve had neighbors with exactly the same kid as described in article. He was a year younger than me and really nice guy, but not very popular. Even kids in the same age as he was preferred to play with me than with him. His mother was so desperate that she once come to me and my pal when we were playing, and dragged him by force to her apartment to play with her son. Yeah, I was shocked. My mate “escaped” after few minutes. Next day father of my neighbor approached me with very serious look in his eyes and told me that I’m stealing his son’s friends and that he doesn’t like it. I was really frightened (10 years old), but fortunately my other buddy was there with me, so it ended just with that. Anyway, as you probably suspecting, it doesn’t end up well to the kido. He became even more unpopular. So as TechCrunch already suggested, if you’re parent of not very “cool” kid, don’t try to make “artificial” friendships for him, it would end up even worst.
OK, don’t know why, but I’ve felt like I must write it down. Uff, relief.
SysAdmin Day!

Totally true!
