Are teenagers so stupid these days?

without comments

I’ve seen trailer to Virginity Hit the other day and must say that I’ve lost faith in humanity, again. Are teenagers really such stupid now that they’re willing to watch such stuff? For sure in High School I was watching, listening and reading a lot of bullshit, but there are limits. A movie about a guy who is about to loose his virginity, common. It’s supposed to be para-documentary, at least looks like it, but actors are so weak that one must be retarded to find it even partially true. I don’t know even why I’m wasting my time to write about it, maybe it’s just too much of bollocks for me and I’ve had to express myself to not explode. Ehh, lame times we’re living in. Trailer is below, if you’re still interested in watching it.

Can sinner be good?

without comments

What would you think about the person who by any means is a sinner, but never harmed innocent. And never was indifferent when somebody was hurting those who can’t fight back. Does this man, even as he is full of sin, deserve to go to heaven? Can all people who were saved by him erase his misdeeds?
That were the questions I’ve asked myself today after seeing Bill Hickock being shot in the back of his head by some trash. This character from Deadwood was very deep. Entire show is quite interesting, but I will really miss this great gunman. I must admit that for the moment I’ve got a piece of doubt to his morals, I’m talking about the scene when he accepts offer from the saloon owner to trick the poor (well not so poor actually) widow. But he quickly recovered in my eyes and died in style. It was a death of a man who knew that he doesn’t fit to normal life, and has understanding that is getting too old to keep old habits. So he writes letter to his wife and goes to the bar to wait for destiny to do its job.
Yes Ladies and Gentlemen, I’m impressed by the personality of Mr. Hickock (and artistry of Keith Carradine). I prefer better one man who is sinner, but will never let good man die if he has anything to say, than hundred of people who live by the laws of faith, but don’t care about the others. True God’s man is the one who will fight the beast to protect the lamb, not the one who is bowing head in front of the altar and then turning it away to not see suffering of others.

This post is dedicated to fellow Rebbecca who has inspired me to write this spiritual text:)

Horror and soap opera don’t match

without comments

I was really excited when ABC launched Happy Town. I thought that at last there would be horror TV series to follow. I’ve watched first episode and it was not bad. It had mystery, some suspense, town was like from Stephen King’s books, mysterious lady was hot. What else do you need from decent horror? And then in second episode it started to collapse. Focus was set to dilemmas of main characters more than to mystery and thrill. It started to be another typical American TV series, just in creepy setting this time (and not such creepy as well). I’ve decided to give it a chance and watched third episode, but it sucked even more. So no more Happy Town for me. It could be good, they’ve made it as usual. With Heroes at least first season was cool, then they’ve ruined it. With this series they’ve killed it in second episode. Shame.

[Spoiler alert] Master has fallen

without comments

I’ve seen Cop Out recently. I was really waiting to watch this movie, mostly because Kevin Smith has directed it. But also because of Mr. Bruce Willis, who, by the way, seems to be getting old a lot slower than other movie stars from his era. What can I say about this picture? Well, it was average. Average when comparing to other similar titles. But we’re talking about Kevin fucking Smith here, the man who brought us Clerks, Mallrats and Chasing Amy (yeah, I know that the last one is gay, but I really like this film). So when I’m trying to rate it from this angle I must say that movie was lame. Really, it’s not the right way Mr. Smith. I know that everybody must eat and do stuff they don’t necessary want to, but have to in order to pay rent. But please, there are better ways to earn money.
What is this movie about? Two really strange cops are getting suspended after disastrous action (BTW. black guy in cell phone costume is not funny, at all). One played by Willis must get money to be able to pay for his daughter’s wedding, so he is trying to sell his valuable baseball card (how original, we haven’t seen it in cinema before), but unlucky for him store he is visiting gets robbed and robbers took his card (one of the robbers is Stifler who also got better roles in his life). So they’re (he and his partner) chasing them in order to retrieve this precious sport gadget. Of course (what a surprise) it brings them to the main bad guy involved in the case they were working on before they’ve got suspended. And finale is of course happy end with big wedding and bigger disappointment. I’ve watched entire movie, this wasn’t the worst one I’ve ever seen, it’s not even in first ten of the worst ones. But as I really like Smith’s work and value him as screenwriter, director and actor, I was feeling betrayed after watching it.

P. S. Calling John McClane Jimmy is not cool. Not cool at all!

Funerals got weird

without comments

I’m watching third season of Six Feet Under now. When I’ve started watching it I’ve felt weird. It wasn’t bad, but also nothing special. I haven’t felt like spending time on this series. Then, after few episodes, I’ve started to like it. Characters are deep, enough. Stories are normal, just life of average family, but have something inside. And the way it’s displayed on the screen is magnetic. So I’ve went smoothly through two seasons, end of second one was amazing BTW. Then there is third season and I don’t really know what to think. It’s not bad, but something is wrong. Nate and Lisa, well I don’t feel it. We’ve had this idea, me and my wife, that Nate is in coma and everything is just a dream, but I don’t believe it anymore. Episode by episode it’s getting more shallow. Today I’ve seen fifth one, and finally Dwight appeared. Hope it would help. It’s good series, I’ve heard that it has great ending, so I don’t want my excitement to burn on third season. We will see.

Collector

without comments

I’ve watched this movie the other night and must say I’m impressed. Long time haven’t seen picture which would keep my nerves tight all the time. There are no famous actors in it, so it wouldn’t be blockbuster. But it’s really worth seeing if you like such movies. By such I mean slashers, but with a decent story which lets you think and get deeper into movie. This was the case with Saw, as for me, but the first one, as next parts where rather getting down.
The only part which wasn’t very good is question I’ve asked myself all the time watching it, how the hell this guy managed to do all this in such short period of time. But if you turn a blind eye on it, rest is really good. Film is dark, scary and violent. Actually extremely violent, my wife was shutting her eyes many times. But we have also nice things here, like Madeline Zima’s boobs, for instance:) 8/10

[Spoiler?] Sherlock Holmes

without comments

I was really prejudiced to this movie. I love Sherlock Holmes and his adventures, but after watching the trailer (find it below) I’ve had a feeling that they would make a stupid action movie from it.

Fortunately I was wrong. Well, it’s not the old Sherlock from times when it was about sharp mind rather than strong hand to solve the mystery. But it’s really entertaining. If you will set your attitude to watch it as combination of Die Hard, some comedy and criminal, then you will not be disappointed. At least I wasn’t. This picture has good scenery (to not say awesome), great tempo, fantastic actors (more about it to come) and not bad story.
As for actors, they were great. But Robert Downey Jr. shouldn’t even try to speak with British accent. Sometimes all I was able to hear from him was blablabla. But maybe it’s because English is not my native language. Anyway he played very good, his mimics was hilarious, he really fit in to this character. His best friend Dr. Watson was also OK and got much better accent, I wonder why;) And we shall not forget about Rachel McAdams who played Irene Adler the thief and object of love for Mr. Holmes. She was beautiful as always, but her role wasn’t too deep, so she couldn’t show her best. Last but not least, a little less known actress Kelly Reilly which was Mary Morstan, fiancee of Dr. Watson, in the movie. Her role wasn’t big, but this lady is so charming that I couldn’t resist to mention her. Forgive me.
As I’ve said before story is quite alright, but nothing special. Nice thing was this mysterious character who employed Ms. Adler to spy and influence our detective. It’s our good friend Professor Moriarty, biggest enemy of Holmes. I’ve marked this post with spoiler tag because of him, but I believe that real Sherlock fans would figure it out anyway while watching the movie. This person is really dark and give us a hope for a sequel. 8/10.

Spoiler Alert: Whiteout

without comments

I was waiting to watch this movie and when I’ve finally did, I’m a little disappointed. I wanted to give it 5/10, but I can’t as even though it not completely was what I’ve expected, still I’ve spent nice time with this picture. Maybe it was because of the trailer (find it below) which has this feel of mystery, thrill and surprise. And movie doesn’t have it, at all.

I can’t say it’s bad, but it doesn’t have this deep, a catch which would make you really feel it. Instead we’ve nice picture, with beautiful scenery of ice and even more beautiful Kate Beckinsale. Why there is so little of her in Hollywood BTW?
And of course I knew that doctor is involved from the moment he was trying to cover up first murder. So there was no mystery (well, maybe I wasn’t sure what Russians were transporting). Also tension gone somewhere and couldn’t come back. But still it wasn’t bad, it’s properly made piece of cinema (of course I can grumble about characters walking outside in -65 Celsius degrees without wearing any face cover, and about the fact that they seemed to feel snow storm only when they were not attracted to the safety rope) and this is the main problem. It’s only correct, nothing more. 6/10

Spoiler Alert: Carriers

without comments

I’ve watched Carriers yesterday. Basing on a trailer you can think that there are some kind of monsters in this movie.

But there aren’t. It’s movie about lethal virus which is killing human kind and a bunch of friends who are trying to find some peace in this really bad situation. Actually it’s good that they didn’t put any monsters in this picture, because it would kill it. Instead we have really nice thriller with some drama. Quite good role by young Capt. Kirk, he can be good actor in the future. We have difficult choices here, however I don’t think I would make the same decisions. But it’s hard to tell if you’re not in the same situation. Anyway it’s a really good piece of movie and totally worth to spent your time, if you like this genre of course. 7/10 from me.

Sons of Anarchy

without comments

12 episodes away, it’s time for some reflection. It’s nice to watch adventures of California motor gang. Good actors, fine described characters. Some of them deep, some of them not much. Mrs. Bundy in the role of Club Queen, very good. Jax is a little strange and the actor who is playing this role is trying too much to be tough guy. What sometimes is annoying. Does anybody remember him from Hooligans? All this put this series among my favorite ones.

There is only one thing which makes me angry. That beside the fact that these guys are nice people, they’re still criminals. I don’t know, but it’s always like that. When you watch European movie bad guy is a bad guy, you hate him a lot. But in American one is always mixed. You have this shady type who on the other side is trying to be good father and helps a lot of people. I don’t like it, if somebody is dark, let him be dark. Still 8/10 for Sons. Uff, another chaotic post behind me:)

P.S. And I don’t like when they’re siting around the table and Clay is hitting it with his “judge” hammer. Really, grown up men playing court like kids.
